Google rolls out new Gemini capabilities to Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive

What Happened

The idea behind the new features is to make the apps more personal and capable to help users get things done faster, right within the platforms themselves.

Our Take

Google shipping AI features that nobody uses is their baseline move at this point.

This is the obvious play: slap Gemini into every app and call it innovation. Google's got a terrible track record with AI adoption though. Bard went nowhere. Workspace AI got middling reviews. Most users either don't know these features exist or find them clunky.

Here's the thing: people don't want AI suggestions everywhere. They want AI to solve specific problems. Google's approach is spray and pray.

What To Do

Don't build around this—adoption will be minimal and Google will probably kill it in 2 years.

What Skeptics Say

Broad rollout across four apps dilutes focus and historically produces inconsistent quality; the 'more personal' framing obscures that these remain generic LLM features with no deep understanding of organizational context or institutional knowledge.
