Anthropic says Claude Code subscribers will need to pay extra for OpenClaw usage

What Happened

It’s about to become more expensive for Claude Code subscribers to use Anthropic’s coding assistant with OpenClaw and other third-party tools.

Our Take

Claude Code gets OpenClaw, it's popular, now there's an extra charge. Fair move — third-party integrations cost money.

But it should've been transparent at launch, not a surprise tier later. Anthropic's playing catch-up on pricing.

The decision's right. The execution's sloppy.

What To Do

Budget for integration costs upfront when building on Claude Code — assume pricing gets more complex, not simpler.

What Skeptics Say

Layering paywalls onto third-party tool integrations signals Anthropic is extracting monetization before ecosystem trust is established — developers burned by mid-cycle pricing shifts tend to de-risk by diversifying to competitors with more predictable cost structures.
